How to open your own Children's clothing boutique?

I am looking to open my own childrens clothing store. I am wondering where to even start with this. Where do you buy the clothes to sell? Is this what wholesale is, you buy clothes from a wholesale retailer to sell in your store? I am wondering if this is profitable and how much money it will take to start. I am looking for any info that will help, I really wish to persue this but am unsure how to go about it. Thanks! How to open your own Children's clothing boutique?
To be an entrepreneur you should have the motivation to research this yourself and not have to ask others for a easy answer, I am just saying! If you have no idea where to begin and want someone to do the work for you just give up the idea now.

Often you need to start with research. Research the area..is there a need for a children's clothing boutique in that area? What kind of space are you looking for? What other shops are in the area that will bring in a similar target consumer? How are you going to advertise? How long will it take to acquire a business license? Do I have all the necessary paperwork in order to be approved to open a business? Do I have rights to the shop name? Do I have the money do purchase the needed inventory and store space? Do you have the ability to track expenses (Quickbook experience)?

Generally clothing items are purchased from trade shows.

You also need to register your business so you will need a lawyer to work on the business contract with. To make money you have to have a competitive edge (great location, cheap pricing, great customer service something to draw in customers..). Why will people pick your shop? What makes it special or unique enough to draw in customers that could go else where?

You will not prosper right away, and usually these types of business bring in little to no cash and will offer you a modest living at best. You need to have money upfront to open a store, buy inventory, buy clothing shelving and stands, make marketing materials, start a website etc....this is not something you can just decide to do one day. It takes planning, research, money and dedication. This is not a get rich quick thing...so if you think that try another avenue. Also be prepared to spend 60+ hrs a week getting things going.

If you know someone who owns a shop or live in an area where a similar shop is located go in and talk to the owner to get tips. Do not walk in there like a idiot, have questions prepared and be willing to work for free if you can to get a better handle on all that is involved.

Also note, the economy is **** and people are losing jobs and business are closing. Is this the best time to attempt to open a botique?
