why do you want a lizard you wierdo?
get some real friends ';pokemon master';How do you persuade your parents to get a lizard?
Lizards require more expensive accessories than cavies do, require you to have bugs in the house to feed him and lots of other little things etc that might turn your parents off the idea.
If you are truly serious about wanting a lizard for a pet, you could do some research, make some notes about what you'd need for him and how you'd care for him... and show your parents what you've found. Also find a species of lizard that would suit your family best, some are quite hard to care for.
I wish you luck! I was always losing battles to bring new pets home, but good research, and a willingness on your part to do all the dirty work (including help pay for the pet if possible) will surely help.
Depends why they don't want you to get one... If they just don't like lizards you should try to look around and find detailed facts regarding how lizard's really aren't that bad (focus on things like debunking myths they might believe about lizards). However, it could be that they're worried you won't be able to handle taking care of two pets, in which case you'll want to prove you can be responsible enough by taking good care of your guinea pig.
a ';lizard'; isnt always easy to keep, they have special requirements, can you provide it with a big enough living space, heat, food?, most reptiles live a long long time, (leopard geckos can live up to 25 years),almost twice as long as most dogs, so its almost a life long commitment. also it will be quite expensive to set up.
also most of the beginner lizards are strictly nocturnal, so its not going to be over active during the day like your guinea pig.
Guinea pigs and lizards... big difference hun!! But having said that I did go from owning a rabbit to owning a bearded dragon.
This is how I got mine:
I found one free to a good home online. It had everything with it, like the tank and lights, and I was all set to get it. My mum helped me research owning them but then someone else got him. *grrr* Anyway, my mum realised how interesting they were so she let me have one! But I did buy it myself....
They cost quite alot to maintain anyway, any lizard does, because every week you need to buy live food such as crickets etc and know about gut-loading them. You need a UV bulb, heat lamp, substrate (sand and stuff like that) and the vivarium itself. They are a bigger commitment than guinea pigs...with them you generally just shove some food in a bowl and let them get on with it but for lizards you have to hunt for suitable food yourself. (I don't mean you have to go out with a spear. lol) but you need to look into their dietary requirements and buy everything. For example I have to buy my bearded dragon his cucumber, apples, endive and stuff like that every week.
You need to remember that the lizards need a certain temperature, and need 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night... in some species you have to get the humidity just right too.
sooooo, think it through. They are a much bigger commitment. =)
Happy birthday for next week anyway
